How to become an Uber Driver

With taxi-hailing services reshaping the transportation industry, newer avenues have opened up for anyone with a will to make a living and a few various details of course. On the forefront of this change is Uber, leading from the front with its streamlined App that has taken the world by storm.

Uber’s rise in a world dominated by large-scale Taxi corporations who often ruled the roost and held, both the driver and the customer to ransom with exorbitant prices and poor employee policies, has been a refreshing change.

One that has been met with a phenomenal response by the general public. Rides are cheaper, faster, and the driver gets to choose their work hours. In a recent report, Uber announced that the median income for an Uber driver in New York is $90000 a year. That send the world into a tizzy.

Following this report, the demand for work as Uber drivers has skyrocketed. And why not? What other job offers the kind of flexibility and exposure as this? But a quick search on the otherwise almighty Google does not reveal much about the process to sign up as an Uber driver.

If you too have been groping in the dark and looking for information on how to become an Uber Driver, then you are at the right place. Here’s our nifty little guide to take you through the sign-up process with all the details that you need to know.

Applying to become an Uber Driver

You must be aware of the many categories of cars that are registered with Uber. There’s Uber X, XL, Select, Black, and SUVs. The application criteria for the first three are identical whereas it changes slightly for the other two. We will, of course, review each one in detail.

The requisites for UberX, XL, and Select

The requirements are pretty straightforward.

1- You must be at least 21 years of age

2- You must own or have access to any 4 door Sedan that can seat at least 4 passengers other than the driver and is not older than 10 years in most states. The exceptions to this rule are Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco where the car can be a 2001 model, New York where it must not be a model older than 5 years and Chicago where it can be as old as 15 years.

3- You must have an in-state driver license that has been valid for at least one year in the United States. If you are younger than 23, the company may demand that you have at least 3 years of experience as a driver. If you have relocated from another state where you were a driver, then please keep the out-of-state driving license with you.

4- You must have an in-state driver’s license and an in-state car insurance in your name.

5- You must have a Social Security Number

6- You will be subject to a background check which you must consent to and is usually carried out by Accurate Background (who recently acquired Hirease) or Check (Information as on Sep 16th 2016)

The Background Check

The background check is a part of Uber’s attempt to maintain a clean employee pool. As potential drivers, this is a phase that makes everyone jittery. But unless you have something to hide, you have nothing to worry about. The background check is a routine process to assess your previous driving history and criminal records if any.

1- The company will check for records in County and Federal courthouses in every country that you have resided in for the past seven years

2- The multi-state criminal database will be checked

3- A social security trace will be originated

4- Motor vehicle records will be checked

5- Last but not the least, the national sex offender registry will be checked

If all these criteria are met, then the next set of requirements are related purely to your driving history

1- A clean Motor Vehicle Report that does not show more than 3 incidents (suspensions, revocations, accidents, traffic convictions or other violations) in the last 3 years

2- No reckless driving cases or DUI

The requirements for Uber Black and SUVs

Uber Black and SUVs form the company’s luxury car service and the drivers who qualify for it take home the cherry with the pie. They earn considerably higher than their X, XL and Select counterparts.

The requirements, however, are equally stringent, the main difference between the two categories being a high-end vehicle, a commercial license, and commercial insurance. The application will also be subject to a vehicle inspection, may require an Airport permit in select cities and photos of the car will need to be submitted along with the application.

Even if you qualify for all the above criteria, you may still not be able to join as an Uber Black driver if Uber is not accepting new drivers in the category, at the moment.

The Car Inspection

Another mandatory part of the application is a mechanical inspection where you will need to take your car to any Uber-approved auto shop or an activation center in your area. The inspection is free at the activation center and will cost you approximately $20 at the auto shop. It is pretty basic, and the safety features (brakes, belts, tires) of your car will be checked in detail.

What if the application gets denied?

As grim as it sounds, there is a possibility that an application may be denied. What’s worse is that neither Uber nor one of the background check companies is very forthcoming about the details of the rejection. You will mostly receive a very generic email stating that your application cannot be considered any further. The best you can do is call Uber customer care or send them an email requesting them to provide some clarity about it. The chances you were getting any reliable information is bleak, though. In such a situation, the best course of action would be to look at alternative companies like Lyft.

Despite sounding like a tough process, the Uber application to become a driver is very easy, and the company is very supportive of new drivers. So, good luck with your application and I hope that this article helps you understand the requirements completely.

How to Become a Film Producer http://jobsamerica.info/how-to-become-a-film-producer/ http://jobsamerica.info/how-to-become-a-film-producer/#respond Mon, 15 Dec 2014 22:47:27 +0000 http://jobsamerica.info/?p=976 How to become a film producer

How to become a film producer

It has been rightly said that a movie begins and ends with a movie producer. He is the very first person to step into the movie and the last to exit. He is the captain of the ship! A movie producer works in close collaboration with the film cast and crew and oversees each project from conception to completion.

Finding a story for the movie which he believes in, getting funds and investments for making the film, hiring the creative team and other team members of the movie, budgeting, handling finances, managing the day to day production work, scheduling, marketing, distribution are some tasks of a film producer.

The job of a movie producer is a highly hectic one requiring a lot of patience and persistence. Apart from the technical know-how, you need to be a self-motivated, persistent, focused person with excellent communication skills and have a business bent of mind if you want to become a film producer. Film production is not a job. It is a career which is not a part of your life but your life. If your heart beats faster as you read this and gives you a rush, then film production is for you.

A real question to ask is when to start and how to prepare to become a movie producer and when and where to begin. The answer is simple, the earlier you start and groom yourself for the role the better. There is no set path for this line of business. All sorts of examples exist with people having chosen completely different paths.

However, it is a good idea to start getting involved with film and theater right from school days. Starting with acting and writing can also be helpful as it grooms you for the final role and also gives you that start you need at an early age. An internship in any production house while studying is recommended.

Even if it is unpaid the exposure, one gain during these internships are of great importance as it will give you a taste of what this film or glamor world. On and off producing short videos or films which do not need significant investments will give you exposure and at the same time build your portfolio.

In this digital age, it is relatively easy to distribute and expose your film or any work online with zero investments. Many examples exist where amateur artists have made it big on the internet with their work going viral. Even if it does not get viral, it gives you great exposure and builds your portfolio. It is a great stepping stone.

After all the experience during your early years, you would have a base to go finally for formal education and get a bachelor’s degree at a film school. The knowledge one gets in these professional schools is of great importance and unparalleled. Cinema production, editing, screenwriting, visual storytelling, digital production, drawing on other aspects of filmmaking are taught. Going for a master’s degree post bachelor’s can prepare you even better for your final mission.

However at each stage what counts most and is of ultimate importance is practical experience. The more projects you do and undertake the better for you. So it’s a good idea never to miss an opportunity to do that one extra project.

While money should not be a goal to pursue any career one needs to put bread on the table. The market in the film business is evolving like any other sector. The expected growth is much slower than in any other industry in the coming years at only a 3% from 2012 to 2013. It is a pretty saturated market already. The money you make ultimately depends on your popularity and work. It can be enough to take merely care of your bills or enough to live like a king.

It is a common misconception that producers are loaded with money, and you will become rich the moment you step into film production or film business. It takes a lot of hard work to make a place and a name in this career as competition is stiff, and the growth is much slower than any other industry. However if this is your passion, then no amount of hard work or obstacles should stop you from making it. Success!

How to Become a Doctor http://jobsamerica.info/how-to-become-a-doctor/ http://jobsamerica.info/how-to-become-a-doctor/#respond Tue, 29 Jul 2014 11:51:42 +0000 http://jobsamerica.info/?p=398 How to Become a Doctor

How to Become a Doctor

Do you want to know how to become a doctor? You may have heard that it takes many years of education to become one. Yes, that’s right. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become a doctor, but the job itself is financially rewarding. Of course, you get to fulfill a noble task of helping others.

Undergraduate Program

The first step towards realizing your dream to become a doctor is to get a four year bachelor’s degree. Now many people would tell you that you have to take Biology but the truth is you can take other courses as long as you meet the required number of science courses.

Apart from that, you also have to perform well in college. It actually doesn’t matter if you took a non-medical course such as sociology, as long as you have the required number of science courses and have good grades. This way, chances are high that you’ll be accepted to a medical school.

Medical School

In order to get into a medical school, you’ll have to take and pass a medical college admission test or MCAT. Usually, aspiring doctors apply for medical school the summer after their junior or senior years. Most medical schools open their application in June. The entire application process takes an entire year, so you need to apply as soon as possible.

While your grades from your undergraduate program and MCAT score would be taken into consideration you also need to show proof of experience in a healthcare setting. If your undergraduate degree is not science related then you should volunteer in a hospital or clinic. You could also conduct research to prove that you have experience in the health care industry.

Keep in mind that medical school would test your determination to become a doctor. To say that it is tough to get into med school is an understatement. Do you know that in the United States only one out of 10 applicants is admitted to medical schools?

So what can you expect from medical school? It is normally a four year program divided into two parts. During the first two years you will devote much of your time in the classroom listening to instructions and lectures. On the third and fourth years you will be assigned to hospitals where you will learn the knowledge and skills essential to becoming a doctor.

Once you have graduated from medical school you need to pass board examinations. Apart from passing these tests you also need to enter residency programs in order to become a full pledged medical doctor.

Residency

How To Become A Dentist http://jobsamerica.info/how-to-become-a-dentist/ http://jobsamerica.info/how-to-become-a-dentist/#respond Sun, 27 Jul 2014 14:55:04 +0000 http://jobsamerica.info/?p=385 How To Become A Dentist - Dentist career

How To Become A Dentist – Dentist career

The field of dentistry offers prestige, flexibility, and financial security but, like all professions, requires not only the right education but perseverance. There are a number of requisites on how to become a dentist such as a degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in the biological sciences. The coursework for a bachelor’s degree is related to what the future dentist will encounter in dental school such as biology, anatomy, physics and two types of chemistry: organic and inorganic. Some colleges and universities offer pre-dental school programs to familiarize students with dental school.

Taking and Passing the Dental Admission Test (DAT)

The aspiring dentist must possess dexterity, communication skills and a background in the natural sciences. He or she is required to pass the DAT or Dental Admission Test in order to attend a dental school for four years. After graduation, he or she will be required to take a licensing exam to be able to practice. Some graduates just take the licensing exam required by the state they want to practice in while others take the All-State examinations so they can practice in all states. The DAT is conducted by the ADA, or American Dental Association, and includes the assessment of the applicant’s general academic ability, perceptual capability, and thorough understanding of relevant scientific information.

Requirements for Entry to Dental School

A graduate is required to take the DAT a year prior to the anticipated date of enrolment. After passing the DAT, the applicant can apply to his or her chosen dental school. It is crucial to attend a dental school which has been certified by the ADA. Applicants to dental school are accepted – or rejected – based on their respective GPAs or grade point averages, recommendations, DAT scores, and, sometimes, internships and extra-curricular activities. Coursework in dental school will include health sciences subjects in biochemistry, anatomy, pathology, radiology, microbiology, physiology, pharmacology, and dental anesthesiology. In dental school, the health sciences will be taught as they are applicable to general dentistry as well as patient care. Some dental schools also offer business management, professional ethics, and community health subjects which would prove useful if the student opens a dental clinic.

Surviving Dental School and Beyond

Dental school’s first two years concentrate on laboratory studies and the coursework. Students will have laboratory sessions in which they apply dental techniques they have learned in their classes. Students will also participate in clinical practice and treat patients with the dental instructor’s supervision. Upon graduation from dental school, the aspiring dentist must take the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE). A graduate who wishes to practice dentistry in a particular state will have to take the qualifying exam and pass it to be issued by that state. Some states, like Louisiana, for instance, conduct their own board examinations.

Dental GP or Orthodontist?

Although a majority of dentists are GPs or general practitioners, some go on to specialize to become orthodontists and establish their own practice or work in a dental clinic. Dental GPs diagnose dental issues on gums and teeth while orthodontists deal with straightening teeth and the correction of improper bites. Before going to dental school to learn how to become a dentist, the individual can already decide whether he or she will be a dentist-employee or a proprietor of his or her own dental clinic. This makes it easier to for the newly-licensed dentist to hire and train his or her own dental staff later on.
