Scholarship Application Examples

Each day scholarship evaluation boards receive thousands of applications from students. How do they decide who to award the scholarship to? Figuring out that one seemingly simple thing, may significantly better your chances of being chosen as the beneficiary.

The fact is that the evaluation committee takes a lot of different factors into consideration while considering the applications. Academic profile and the economic background usually hold paramount importance and the next, but equally vital part of the application process is the scholarship application cover letter.

The cover letter is your presentation to the committee explaining why you are more deserving than the others who have applied. And that’s where it is easy to go wrong. You may have the most fluent dialect, and flair with language, but it guarantees nothing.

Contrary to what most people think, there is no formula to follow either. That’s what you will notice when you download ‘winning scholarship application examples’ from the internet. No two samples look identical. Each has their unique way of presenting the application to the committee.

Having said that, there are a few ground rules or ‘best policies’ (if we can call them that) that you can follow while creating your application that can help you make your application a success. Here are some of them.

The Explanation

The gist of the scholarship application letter is to outline your career goals, your plans to achieve them and your strengths that will help you get there. It should also explain clearly why you should be selected and how you will benefit from it. But even before you begin to type the letter out, you need to keep one word in mind, ‘Identity.’ The letter is about you, your story and how passionate you are about the subject. There is no better way to explain this than being yourself. You can use scholarship application examples as a reference, but never imitate or copy anything.

The Requisites

Adherence to deadlines and organizational skills are highly valued in any educational program. So, you must ensure that you read the requirements in detail and construct the application in a way that it makes it easy for the committee to evaluate it. Attach any items that were requested, in the exact specific order that they were listed. If there were instructions not to add anything extra, do not do it. This makes it appear that you cannot follow instructions. If no such directives were mentioned, then feel free to add extra items. But don’t overdo it.

The Tone

A scholarship application letter must have a formal tone with a very natural and well-structured flow. It goes without saying that there must not be any grammatical or typographical errors. One of the best ways to ensure that the letter is concise and crisp is to make someone else read it. It helps to spot small errors and remove redundant information that is unnecessary.

The Thank You Cover Letter

The Thank You Cover Letter is an expression of gratitude that lets the donor know that you appreciate the chance to be considered for the scholarship, irrespective of the outcome. It is usually very well received by the donors.

Dear Ms. Johnson,

I am writing this letter to introduce myself (Your name) and also express my gratitude to be able to participate in the scholarship program (Name of Scholarship). I have been inducted in the College in the Fall 2016 term.

I would like to thank you for granting other college-bound students and me this financial assistance through the scholarship program that will allow me to concentrate on my studies without worrying about the financial burden. Enclosed herewith, you will find my application details, academic transcript, recommendation letters and other relevant information.

Once again, I would take this opportunity to thank you for this generosity and continued support. I promise to work to the best of my ability.

Sincerely,

John Doe

The Extras

As we mentioned before, if there are no restrictions on adding extra items to the application, then this can be an excellent tool where you can add weight to the application and be creative with it. You can start with a Scholarship Essay on your career goals or your educational goals. A lot of people spend an enormous amount of time perfecting their scholarship essays. To an extent, it is entirely justified because a well-written essay can have a huge impact on the chances of being awarded the scholarship. But you must ensure that you limit it to one or two pages at the most.

Additional documents that show your skills and aptitude for the subject are always a welcome addition. For example, a letter that congratulates you for displaying leadership skills and impacting the local communities through an awareness program that you conducted. Or, just a congratulations letter for being one of the top 3 students in the class. Both these attachments reveal a side of you that the original application cannot cover.

One of the most useful extra attachments that you can make to a scholarship application is acceptance letters to colleges. Unless the scholarship is meant for one particular college, you can use it at any college of your choice, if awarded. Attaching the acceptance letters shows that you are serious about this. It does not, however, limit your choice of a college. All you need to do is inform the scholarship about the college that they need to send the award to.

The Letters of recommendation

Personalizing the letter of recommendation to the recipient is a very effective way to show that you went the extra mile to address this directly to them. The person writing the letter for you may not be too keen to write ten or twenty letters if you have to submit multiple applications. So, volunteer to write it for them and personalize it so that they only have to sign on it. As a rule of thumb, do not attach more than three to four letters of recommendation with an application.

Last but not the least, do not send out the application without proofing it. It must be formatted, neat and proofread.

That’s all that there is to it. With some effort and after reading a few scholarship application examples, you should be able to draft a great one. Good luck!

An Overview of the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) http://jobsamerica.info/an-overview-of-the-federal-supplemental-educational-opportunity-grant-fseog/ http://jobsamerica.info/an-overview-of-the-federal-supplemental-educational-opportunity-grant-fseog/#respond Thu, 15 Sep 2016 00:06:45 +0000 http://jobsamerica.info/?p=1373 Fseog grant

Fseog grant

If you are a student who needs help paying for college, you may have been told to apply for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant or FSEOG. This grant is awarded to undergraduate students in need of financial assistance, and unlike a college loan, it does not need to be repaid. A student who is awarded this grant can receive an amount between $100 to $4,000 per year and the amount is determined by the severity of his or her need for financial aid.

To be considered for an FSEOG, you need to be eligible for a Pell Grant. (We will talk more about the Pell Grant later on in this article.) The applicants need to demonstrate that they have a dire financial need, and they should have one of the smallest Expected Family Contributions (EFC) of those who are recipients of the Pell Grant.

The EFC is a number that the federal government determines to be the amount that your family can contribute to your college education. The factors that are taken into consideration when calculating the EFC include assets, household income and the number of individuals in your family who are currently attending college.

All Pell Grant applicants receive funding, but this is not the case with the FSEOG Grant. That’s because this grant is only limited to the amount of funding that is given to a particular institution or college, and once the government has distributed the funding to the schools, it is the school that decides who will receive the funding and for how much. The government covers 75% of the funds, while the school contributes the remaining 25%.

How to Qualify for the FSEOG

Perhaps the most important question that students ask is, how do I qualify for the FSEOG?

To find out, you first need to fill out the FAFSA, or the Free Application for Student Aid. You can do this online by going to this page. You must be able to demonstrate the great need for financial aid, which means that your family’s contribution to your college tuition is zero.

That’s not all. Other requirements need to be met so you can be eligible for this grant.

1. You must be a United States citizen.

2.Your GPA must be above 2.0.

3. You must be an undergraduate currently enrolled in your first Bachelor’s degree program.

The FSEOG Application Process

If you meet the requirements we’ve listed above, you can go ahead and begin the application process.

Step 1: Apply to a college of your choice and be admitted to a program that is eligible for the FSEOG (Bachelor’s degree program).

Step 2: Complete the FAFSA online. You’ll need to provide your social security number as well as that of your parents (if you’re their dependent). Your tax information will also be required, as well as your parents’ (if again, you’re their dependent). Balances of savings and checking accounts, untaxed income, investments and other financial information will also need to be provided.

Step 3: If you’re awarded the grant, the funds will be used to pay for your tuition directly. If you have no outstanding balance, then you will be given a check for the amount of the grant.

The grant works on a first come first served basis, and there is no set amount to be awarded to the student. Once all the funding budget has been given for the year, the school will no longer be able to offer further financial assistance. Another important point to keep in mind is that even if you are awarded the FSEOG for the year, there is no guarantee that you will still receive it next year or the year after that. That is why you need to update your FAFSA annually to ensure you will continue receiving financial aid through this program.

What is the Difference Between the FSEOG and the Pell Grant?

Earlier we have mentioned the Pell Grant. It is one of the leading products that college financial aid officers and guidance counselors rely on so the school can provide financial aid to students in need.

The Federal Pell Grant is not a loan, so you don’t need to pay back the amount awarded to you. It is, in fact, the first step in obtaining extra funding, and this is why it is often dubbed the foundation of federal student financial aid. How is this so, you might ask?

Let’s explain. For a student to receive other grants, they first need to be eligible for and be awarded, a Pell Grant. The federal government shoulders the entire cost of the financial aid so that means schools will always be able to extend financial assistance to all eligible students.

Students given the Pell Grant also need not worry about this aid affecting other grants they may be entitled to. But it does have an impact on the enrollment status of the student. If the student is not enrolled for the whole academic year, he or she will not be given the same funding as someone who is enrolled for the full year. The same goes for students who are enrolled in college part-time.

When this grant has been awarded, the student can still seek further financial assistance if they can demonstrate a strong financial need. They can apply for the FSEOG which are granted by the school. Schools are given funds every year, and they need to use the whole amount. Otherwise, they could face a reduction of the FSEOG funds or worse, elimination in the following year.

Students should first qualify for a Pell Grant before they can apply for the FSEOG. They cannot get any FSEOG funds unless they are given the Pell Grant.

The differences between the two types of funding may seem very basic however the amounts given to a student can vary widely depending on their financial situation. The student and their family should do their best to get the Pell Grant amount finalized so they can determine if pursuing an FSEOG application is necessary. This is critical because as mentioned above, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant funds are given on a first come, first served basis.

You wouldn’t attempt to press right into your skinny cousin’s match, so why try a field since it helps him? People who are trying to assist you will indeed come and do the matching of whispering “plastics” in your ear. Instead of hopping at their tips, take some time to think about your choices. Determine what you intend to do. When you get in an industry merely because it’s very hot, burnout isn’t far behind.

3. Do not Go right into an Industry Since Your Friend Is Doing Well in It.

Get extensive information concerning the fields you’re considering by networking, reading as well as doing the internet research as much as possible. Having informative interviews with graduates from your university, colleagues, close friends or family is fun means to get the news on different industries.

4. Don’t Stick to Opportunities You Already Know About

Stretch your assumption of just what might help you. Check out work profiles, and check out career areas you discover from self-assessment workouts.

6. Don’t Keep Your Dissatisfaction to Yourself or Try to Make the Change Alone

This is the moment to speak with folks (probably not your boss merely yet). Pals, family members, and associates have to know exactly what’s taking place so they can aid you to make use of that large percent of jobs that aren’t promoted.

7. Don’t Go Back to College Unless You’ve Done Some Test-Drives in the New Area of The Career You Want Pursue

You’re never too old for an internship, a volunteer work or you might get a contract work in a new field; there are tons of ways to get skill and experience you need which won’t nothing only the time spent on it. A new degree or diploma may or might not make the world stay up and take notice. Be very certain where you intend if going back to school will be worth it, as you place yourself with the discomfort as well as the financial obligation of an additional degree program.

8. Be Careful When Utilizing Placement Agencies or Search Firms

Do some research to be sure to locate an excellent match. Ask those that work in the field you’re trying to obtain right into or other useful career changers for suggestions. Try to find a company that recognizes how you can be innovative when positioning career changers.

9. Do not Expect a Career Counselor to Tell You Which Field to Enter

Job counselors are facilitators, and also, they’ll follow your lead. They could help ferret out your long-buried desires as well as talents. However, you’ll need to do the research study and the decision making by yourself.

10. Do not Anticipate to Switch Overnight

A thorough occupation adjustment frequently will take a minimum of six months to carry out, and also the time regularly extends to a year or even more.

Finding the Right Career : For You http://jobsamerica.info/finding-the-right-career-for-you/ http://jobsamerica.info/finding-the-right-career-for-you/#respond Fri, 21 Nov 2014 01:47:15 +0000 http://jobsamerica.info/?p=882 Finding the Right Career

Finding the Right Career

Finding the right career could be difficult, but having a well-defined career direction would allow you to land a job that you really want. For starters, it’s important to realize your strength, familiarize yourself with the research options, acquire new skills, and muster the courage to make a change if you’re not satisfied with your current career. By doing this, you could discover the career that’s right for you. Likewise, we’ve listed some tips that would help you decide.

Tip 1: Determine the occupations that match your interests.

When it comes to finding the right career, it’s important to do a little research and see how your interests could translate into a new career. By doing so, you might even be surprised at the careers that are linked to things you enjoy doing.

Tip 2: Evaluate your strengths and skills.

Once you have a general idea of your career path, it’s important to know what skills you have and what skills you’re going to need. Keep in mind, you’re not starting from scratch and you already have some skills; all you need to do is improve them so that you’ll have the ability to use them in your chosen field.

Tip 3: Try career tests.

There are various online tools that could help in the process of discovering yourself. Even though personality assessments couldn’t tell you what your exact career would be, it’ll help you identify what’s essential for your chosen career, what you love doing, and in which field you excel the most. it is a test to inform you what abilities you are best at executing. There is no pass or fall short, so do not sweat the word “test”. It merely gauges your abilities. From there, you can determine what area of experience you are best. As soon as you realize this info, you need to ask yourself, “Am I about to operate in that industry?” or “Do I like that area?” If the response is no, then pick another thing that you master. Your career choice does not always have to be your best skill. For instance, I prefer to work with computer systems, but my best skill is in design. I have NO need to be a designer, however I am exceptional at problem-solving. Therefore, computer programming is an ability I have found out and want to do.

Tip 4: Research on specific careers.

Once you’ve narrowed down some specific careers, it’s now time to utilize the Internet and get the information you need online– from description of positions to salaries being offered. Likewise, this would help you determine if this would be the right career for you, depending on your practical priorities, such as:
* The stability of the field you’re considering.
* The average salary.
* The distance from your home.
* The possibilities of relocating because of training or promotion.
* The impact of this new job to your family.

Tip 5: Get help from others.

Even though there’s a lot of information available online, nothing beats first-hand information. Paralegal Jobs

Paralegals are a specialized kind of assistant that work closely with lawyers.

They aren’t exactly lawyers as they cannot offer legal advice, can’t represent a client in the court of law nor can they charge any kind of fees. They also don’t have the authority to sign legal documents.

Paralegal jobs allow those interested in potentially going into law without committing to 6+ years of education. If you’ve ever considered becoming an attorney but weren’t sure the best way to go about it, consider becoming a paralegal to see if you’d like practicing law.

What Do Paralegals Do?

Paralegals do much of the “behind the scenes” work on behalf of the law firms and attorneys they work for.

They investigate facts and figures and spend great deal of time methodically researching and interviewing witnesses and clients. There’s also strong clerical demands in a paralegal role.

Drafting reports, organizing files, and submitting relevant paperwork to courts are tasks that many paralegals accomplish on a daily basis.

Essential Skills

Although experienced paralegals often end up performing niche tasks such as specializing in research, there are several universal skills that every interested paralegal candidate should possess.

  1. A good paralegal should have basic knowledge about the legal terms in use, the rules and procedures used in federal and state courts. If you don’t know these terms and rules, that’s OK, but you should have the desire and intent to study them.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must as the job requires constant interaction between clients, court officials and other lawyers.

Educational Qualifications

Most paralegal jobs require applicants to have a 2 or 4 year degree majoring in some aspect of the law. Examples include criminal justice, dedicated paralegal degrees, and pre-law coursework.

Paralegal certifications are also widely acceptable and can be obtained via vocational training centers and community colleges.

It’s a competitive field so if you’re seriously considering becoming a paralegal, it’s strongly recommended that you obtain a certification or degree to give your foot in the door.

Medical Billing and Coding http://jobsamerica.info/medican-billing-and-coding/ http://jobsamerica.info/medican-billing-and-coding/#respond Sat, 30 Aug 2014 18:51:46 +0000 http://jobsamerica.info/?p=633 Medical billing and coding career

Medical billing and coding career

Medical billing is the process of following up on insurance companies offering health insurance services in order to receive payment for services rendered by a healthcare provider.

Medical billing and medical coding are not the same thing. While the medical coder and medical biller may be the same person or may work closely together to make sure all invoices are paid properly, the medical coder is primarily responsible for abstracting and assigning the appropriate coding on the claims.

In order to accomplish this, the coder checks a variety of sources within the patient’s medical record, (i.e. the transcription of the doctor’s notes, ordered laboratory tests, requested imaging studies and other sources) to verify the work that was done.

Then the coder must assign CPT codes, ICP-9 codes and HCPCS codes to both report the procedures that were performed and to provide the medical biller with the information necessary to process a claim for reimbursement by the appropriate insurance agency.

Medical coding requires a good deal of education and training to become a fully skilled medical coder. To begin with, coders must have thorough knowledge of anatomy and medical terminologies.

It is not necessarily important for medical coders to have degrees or masters in the field. What is required is a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

It is also highly recommended for serious coders to complete a medical coding course of study, pass the CPC exam and earn their certification as a Certified Professional Coder, or CPC.

Certified Professional Coders, or CPCs, are in high demand because employers know that these individuals can perform the job of medical coder with the utmost proficiency. It is important to become familiar with different types of insurance plans, regulations and compliance rules.

Although a medical biller’s duties vary with the size of the work facility, the biller typically assembles all data concerning the bill. This can include charge entry, claims transmission, payment posting, insurance follow-up and patient follow-up.

Medical billers regularly communicate with physicians and other health care professionals to clarify diagnosis or to obtain additional information. Therefore, the medical biller must understand how to read the medical record and, like the medical coder, be familiar with CPT, HCPCS Level II and ICD-9-CM codes. Medical billing and coding certification is important as the financial health of a practice largely depends on the performance of the billing office.

Increasing demands on providers with decreasing reimbursement requires health care offices to have highly skilled individuals for medical billers.
