Being a Truck Driver Means Getting Into a Daily Adventure
Planning to become a truck driver means planning to stay on the roads for most of the time, which again promises a lot of movement, excitement, adventure, the chances of sighting new parts of the country, and exploring to your heart’s content. When you get all of these with a really promising career and regular perks on salary as you mature more as a driver, then being a truck driver is obviously a nice profession. But there is more to all that. You just can’t become a truck driver all of a sudden without training and any knowhow of trucks.
The normal route to becoming a truck driver
Being a truck driver requires getting training from a recognized truck driving school or a truck driver hiring company. Then you need to pass two tests. One is a written exam, and another is a practical exam. Only after that you can become a truck driver. Still, there are criteria to be fulfilled to be eligible to get the training even.
The basic requirements to become a truck driver
The main criteria to become a truck driver are:
- You will have to be 21+ years. If you are younger than that, then you will not get the required insurance to drive a truck.
- You will have to be healthy both physically and mentally, with strong eyesight, normally working limbs, and a normal blood pressure.
- Your name should not be in the police files. It’s difficult for criminals to get a driving license.
How to become a truck driver
You will have to go to a truck driving school or to a company that hires truck drivers. A driving school would train you, and then make you take exams, and on passing them you will get the CDL. But, if you go directly to a company, they would hire you are as a trainee driver, train you and then after passing the exams you will become a driver, get the CDL, and then work as their employee.
You must have a commercial driving license for being a truck driver. To handle big vehicles above 26000 pounds you must have a commercial driving license or CDL.
Besides passing the test and starting the on road training, you must have the common sense and understanding to analyze a situation and get out of it on your own. Your company or school would train you and tell you what to do, and what not to do on the roads. But then you would be facing the situation in real at different places, at different times of the day. Therefore, you must have a cool mind and sorted thinking to get out of problems and oddities.

Also you should be ready to be away from your hoe most of the time. Only 2-3 days in a fortnight would be the expected time you would get to stay at home. Therefore you must plan it beforehand, and talk to your family or other relationships about the hard part of this profession.
Otherwise there is money, adventure, lots of experience and option to travel a lot everyday, which makes being a truck driver really exciting.
